Description: A gramophone record, commonly known as phonograph record, vinyl record, or simply record,is an analog sound storage medium consisting of a flat disc with an inscribed modulated spiral groove usually starting near the periphery and ending near the centre of the disc. When made of polyvinyl chloride, such a disc is also known as a vinyl record. Gramophone records were the primary medium used for commercial music reproduction for most of the 20th century, replacing the phonograph cylinder by the 1920s. They were largely supplanted by the late 1980s by digital media, leaving the mainstream in 1991.[1] [2] However, they continue to be manufactured and sold in the 21st century. The vinyl record regained some popularity by 2008, with nearly 2.9 million units shipped that year, the most in any year since 1998.[3] They are used predominantly by young adults, as well as DJs and audiophiles for certain types of music, especially electronic dance music, hip hop, punk rock, and jazz.

As of 2009, vinyl records continue to be used for distribution of independent and alternative music artists, unlike more mainstream pop releases, which tend be mostly sold in digital or compact disc format. Description: Primus is an American rock band based in San Francisco, California, currently composed of bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry 'Ler' LaLonde and drummer Jay Lane. Primus originally formed in 1984 with Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth, later joined by Lane, though the latter two departed the band at the end of 1988. Now featuring LaLonde and drummer Tim 'Herb' Alexander, Primus recorded their debut, Suck on This in 1989, followed by four studio albums; Frizzle Fry, Sailing the Seas of Cheese, Pork Soda, and Tales from the Punchbowl. Alexander left the band in 1996, replaced by Bryan 'Brain' Mantia, and Primus went on to record the original theme song for the TV show South Park and two more albums, Brown Album and Antipop, before declaring a hiatus in 2000. In 2003, Claypool and LaLonde reunited with Alexander and released a DVD/EP, Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People, before touring sporadically through 2009. In 2010, it was announced that Lane had rejoined Primus, replacing Alexander, and the band released their eighth album, Green Naugahyde, in 2011.

Primus are characterized by their irreverent, quirky approach to music. They have released some of their records on Claypool's Prawn Song Records label, the title of which is a parody of Led Zeppelin's Swan Song label.

Primus began as Primate in El Sobrante, California in 1984 with singer and bassist Les Claypool, guitarist Todd Huth, and a LinnDrum drum machine. The duo initially had trouble finding a drummer, until Claypool's friend Vince 'Perm' Parker returned home from a stint in the army, and together the three of them recorded their first demo, financed by Claypool selling his car.[1][2] Primate changed their name to Primus after 'about a month' when they were approached by a group called The Primates threatening legal action over the similarity of their names.[2] Parker was soon replaced by the band's second drummer, Peter Libby, who was himself replaced by Robbie Bean, before the band eventually. Description: Kenneth Howes and Jeff Crompton were tasked with doing a complete redesign in 1956, with the goal of producing a dedicated sports car aimed principally at the US market. Ken Howes contributed some 80% of the overall design work, which bears more than incidental resemblance to the early Ford Thunderbird—Ken Howe had worked at Ford before joining Rootes. The Alpine was produced in four subsequent revisions through to 1968. Total production numbered around 70,000.

Production stopped shortly after the Chrysler take over of the Rootes Group. [edit] Series I 1959-1960 The 'Series' Alpine started production in 1959. One of the original prototypes still survives and was raced by British saloon car champion Bernard Unett. Its history can be found at www.xrw302.webeden.co.uk.

The car made extensive use of components from other Rootes Group vehicles and was built on a modified floorpan from the Hillman Husky estate car.[3] The running gear came mainly from the Sunbeam Rapier but with front disc brakes replaced the saloon car's drums. An overdrive unit and wire wheels were optional. The suspension was independent at the front using coil springs and at the rear had a live axle and semi elliptic springing. The Girling manufactured brakes used 9.5 in (241 mm) disc at the front and 9 in (229 mm)drums at the rear. Until 1962 the car was assembled for Rootes by Armstrong Siddeley.[1] An open car with overdrive was tested by the British magazine The Motor in 1959 and had a top speed of 99.5 mph (160.1 km/h) and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 13.6 seconds. A fuel consumption of 31.4 miles per imperial gallon (9.00 L/100 km; 26.1 mpg-US) was recorded.

The test car cost £1031 including taxes. [4] 11,904 examples of the series I were produced.[1]. Description: During recording of their follow-up album Machine, Koichi Fukuda left the band to spend time with his girlfriend and pursue other musical opportunities. Fukuda was only on one song 'Otsego Undead' as keyboardist, which was on the soundtrack to Dracula 2000.

As Fukuda's replacement, former Dope member Tripp Eisen stepped in. Machine was released May 22, 2001 to major success, and shortly after, Static-X began work on their third album, Shadow Zone, this time with Eisen performing and writing on the album. However, before they could start recording, Ken Jay left the band due to musical and political differences. To drum on the album, Josh Freese of A Perfect Circle and The Vandals was brought in. Later, Nick Oshiro, formerly of Seether, was selected as Jay's replacement and the band's permanent drummer. During production of the album, Jonathan Davis of Korn contacted Wayne Static to record the vocals for a song he wrote for the Queen of the Damned soundtrack, entitled 'Not Meant for Me' as well as contributing the song 'Cold'.

A music video for the song was included as one of the special features on the dvd release (see: Queen of the Damned). Shadow Zone was later released on October 7, 2003. Static-X continued their affiliation with video game soundtracks: 'This Is Not' from Machine, was included in the video game Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder; 'The Only' from Shadow Zone was featured on the soundtrack of Need for Speed: Underground. Description: Chris Copping (born 29 August 1945, Middleton, Lancashire, England) is a musician and singer-songwriter who was a member of Procol Harum in the 1970s, and has also composed for TV and film. He predominantly plays organ, piano and bass guitar. In 1960 he joined a group called The Paramounts as a guitarist but left in December 1962 to go to study chemistry at Leicester University.

Diz Derrick replaced him in the group until they split up in October 1966. From 1963 until 1966 he studied at Leicester University, receiving an honours degree in chemistry. From 1966 to 1969, he worked for the government and studied for a PhD.

During this time his first marriage had broken up and he had returned to playing music, initially playing the organ in a pub, then playing traditional German music. In 1969, he was invited by Robin Trower to replace Matthew Fisher on organ and David Knights on bass in Procol Harum (at which point that band consisted entirely of ex-The Paramounts musicians).[1] Between December 1969 and March 1977 Copping recorded seven albums with the group and toured extensively. During this time Copping alternated between bass guitar and Hammond organ as other musicians joined the group. After recording the album, Something Magic, he left the group and was replaced by Dee Murray for the accompanying tour, after which the group broke up. In 1978 he moved to Australia where he continues to play and compose.

In recent years Copping has worked with artists such as Mark Hilton, JoJo Leslie and Astrid Munday, as well as composing music for a number of short films (Miss Fortune, The Web and Slim Pickings). Description: Among landbirds are a rich assortment consisting of warblers, babblers, bee-eaters, bulbuls, buntings, chats, Painted francolins and quails.

The Indian grey hornbill and Marshall's iora are also present. There are many birds of prey including the osprey, peregrine, Pallas' sea eagle, short-toed eagle, tawny eagle, imperial eagle, spotted eagle and crested serpent eagle. The greater spotted eagle has recently been recorded breeding here, a new breeding record for the species in India. Description: Recording studio A recording studio is a facility for sound recording and mixing. Ideally both the recording and monitoring spaces are specially designed by an acoustician to achieve optimum acoustic properties (acoustic isolation or diffusion or absorption of reflected sound that could otherwise interfere with the sound heard by the listener).

Recording studios may be used by record musicians, voice over artists for advertisements or dialogue replacement in film, television or animation, foley, or to record their accompanying musical soundtracks. The typical recording studio consists of a room called the 'studio' or 'live room', where instrumentalists and vocalists perform; and the 'control room', where sound engineers operate professional audio for analogue or digital recording to route and manipulate the sound. Often, there will be smaller rooms called 'isolation booths' present to accommodate loud instruments such as drums or electric guitar, to keep these sounds from being audible to the microphones that are capturing the sounds from other instruments, or to provide 'drier' rooms for recording vocals or quieter acoustic instruments. Description: Drowning Pool is an American metal band from Dallas, Texas, which consists of vocalist Jasen Moreno, guitarist C.J. Pierce, bassist Stevie Benton and drummer Mike Luce.

After the release of their debut album, Sinner, vocalist Dave Williams was found dead on August 14, 2002[1] from a heart disease. Jason Jones, who replaced Williams in 2003, recorded one album, Desensitized, but left in 2005 due to musical differences.[2] Ryan McCombs of metal band SOiL later replaced Jones and released two albums, Full Circle and Drowning Pool.[3] However, McCombs left the band in 2011 to rejoin SOiL.[4] Jasen Moreno was announced as Ryan McCombs' replacement in 2012. Description: Hinder is an American rock band from Oklahoma that was formed in 2001 by drummer Cody Hanson, guitarist Joe Garvey, and singer Austin Winkler. The band was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2007. History [edit] Formation and early history Before the band formed, Austin Winkler sang in an Oklahoma City cover band until July 2001,[3] when he met drummer Cody Hanson and guitarist Joe Garvey at a college party.[4] Soon after meeting, the three formed Hinder and began performing at an Oklahoma City club called The Blue Note, building a local fan base. Profits from the shows went to advertising, as well as paying the expenses for the group's first release, an EP entitled Far from Close. Description: In the first week of April 2010, 'Fire it Up' was released for the Rock band music store in Rock Band 2.

On April 19, The Detroit Red Wings featured 'The Invitation' and 'Welcome To The Masquerade' during the pre-game introduction.[25] On May 11, 2010, Trevor announced on his personal Facebook page: 'We [TFK] covered 'The Heat Miser Song' from the old classic Christmas special, gonna do one with FM too, but that's a surprise.' Referring to their upcoming appearance on the album 'X-Christmas 2' by Tooth and Nail Records. He has also stated that a live DVD for TFK is planned for the very near future and is being recorded on May 28 at YC Alberta at Rexall Place in Edmonton in front of an audience of 14,000 people.[26] The live DVD is likely to be released in the fall of 2010 according to Trevor.[27] TFK's song 'Unbelievable' is to be used in the movie Just Wright.[12] During the 2010 NBA playoffs, TFK's song 'Move' is being used by ABC.

In 2010, TFK performed at Creation Festival: The Tour Presents the Welcome to the Masquerade Fall Tour. Description: Polysics was formed in 1997 by Japanese high-school student Hiroyuki Hayashi. After watching some live footage of Devo and becoming heavily inspired by new wave music of the West, the student quit his soccer team and formed a band that would expand on the cartoonish image and musical ideas of the zany art-punk icons he had seen on TV. He was joined by drummer Junichi Sugai and Sako (aka Poly 2). Another member named Kaneko joined within the early years of the band. He then left and he was then replaced by Kayo and with her mechanical stage presence, it provided an asymmetrical dynamic to the frenetic antics of the other three. The name of the band derives from the first synthesizer owned by Hayashi, the Korg Polysix.

This synth appears in two of their early music videos. In 1999, Polysics released their first albums 1st P and A.D.S.R.M!

On the independent label DECKREC Records. Just after the release of 1st P their bassist, known only as 'POLY-2', left. The band dropped the 'POLY-X' names, and reduced to a trio, with new member Fumi on Bass Support on some of the tracks from Neu. In 1999, Asian Man Records released their US debut album, Hey! To rave reviews, but weak sales. The album was a compilation of tracks from their first two Japanese releases. In 2000, Polysics signed to Ki/oon Records (a subsidiary of Sony Music Japan Inc.) and released their first major album Neu.

The album carried with it the same manic energy as their independent releases but more refined. On the 2001 album Eno, Synthesizers became more prevalent in the mix, but the songs still had an intense punk-like energy.

For this album, Fumi applied as a full member, returning Polysics to a quartet. 2002 saw the release of the album For Young Electric Pop, Polysics' attempt at a pop album. The manic punk energy was minimized, but the band showed it had an amazing sense of harmony and style. In 2003, Neu was released in the United States on Asian Man Records to rave reviews and great. Description: Machine Head finished touring for The Burning Red, and entered a studio with producer Johnny K to record Supercharger. Debuting at number 115 on the Billboard 200, the album was released on October 2, 2001.[13] The album met the same criticism as The Burning Red, especially for the ever-present rapping vocals.

Blabbermouth.net reviewer Borivoj Krgin stated Supercharger 'is likely to disappoint everyone who is expecting the Bay Area quartet to return to the ultra-testosterone-charged sounds of their first two albums'. Machine Head released a single for 'Crashing Around You' as well as a music video. The video was released several weeks after the September 11, 2001 attacks, and was banned from MTV for the depictions of falling buildings. Roadrunner Records, expecting to make a fair profit from album promotions, dropped the band's funding, causing Machine Head to leave the label.[19] At the same time the band was leaving Roadrunner, Luster departed from the band for musical differences. By 2002, Machine Head has sold over 1.3 million albums worldwide, and overall Supercharger (mixed by Colin Richardson) would go on to sell an impressive 250,000 copies worldwide, but it would be their lowest selling album to date.

Once the tour for the album had been completed, Machine Head and Roadrunner Records mutually decided to sever ties with regards to distribution in North America and around the world, however to fill the ties, the band released 'Hellalive' (also mixed by Colin Richardson) which was a recording of a Brixton Academy, London set. In 2002 Ahrue Luster left the band and was temporarily replaced by Phil Demmel, who played in thrash band Vio-lence alongside Flynn.

Demmel played some festival shows with Machine Head (including a headlining slot at the With Full Force festival in Germany). Then with Phil not being able to commit to the band, he and Machine Head parted ways. The remainder of the band starting writing songs for the next album (eventually Through the Ashes. Description: The Orthophonic had an interior folded exponential horn, a sophisticated design informed by impedance-matching and transmission-line theory, and designed to provide a relatively flat frequency response.

Its first public demonstration was front-page news in the New York Times, which reported that: 'The audience broke into applause. John Philip Sousa [said]: 'Gentleman [sic], that is a band. This is the first time I have ever heard music with any soul to it produced by a mechanical talking machine.'

The new instrument is a feat of mathematics and physics. It is not the result of innumerable experiments, but was worked out on paper in advance of being built in the laboratory. The new machine has a range of from 100 to 5,000 frequencies[sic], or five and a half octaves. The 'phonograph tone' is eliminated by the new recording and reproducing process.' [12] Gradually, electrical reproduction entered the home. The clockwork motor was replaced by an electric motor; the 'needle' and diaphragm (the 'sound box') was replaced with a 'pickup' using either a steel or sapphire stylus, and a transducer to convert the groove vibrations into an electrical signal. The exponential horn became an amplifier and loudspeaker.[citation needed] [edit] 78 rpm materials Early disc records were made of various materials including hard rubber.

From 1897 onwards, earlier materials were largely replaced by a rather brittle formula of 25% shellac, a filler of a cotton compound similar to manila paper, powdered slate, and a small amount of a wax lubricant. The mass production of shellac records began in 1898 in Hanover, Germany, and continued until the end of the 78 rpm format in the late 1950s.

'Unbreakable' records, usually of celluloid on a pasteboard base, were made from 1904 onwards, but they suffered from an exceptionally high level of surface noise. 'Unbreakable' records could be bent, broken, or otherwise damaged; but not nearly as easily as shellac records. Vinyl was first tried. Description: Green Day is an American punk rock band formed in 1987. The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist and backing vocalist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool.

Cool replaced former drummer John Kiffmeyer in 1990, prior to the recording of the band's second studio album, Kerplunk, and has been a member of the band since. Green Day was originally part of the punk scene at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California.

Description: The giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) is an African even-toed ungulate mammal, the tallest of all land-living animal species, and the largest ruminant. The giraffe's scientific name, which is similar to its antiquated English name of camelopard, refers to its irregular patches of color on a light background, which bear a token resemblance to a leopard's spots.

The average mass for an adult male giraffe is 1,200 kilograms (2,600 lb) while the average mass for an adult female is 830 kilograms (1,800 lb).[3][4] It is approximately 4.3 metres (14 ft) to 5.2 metres (17 ft) tall, although the tallest male recorded stood almost 6 metres (20 ft).[3][4] The giraffe is related to other even-toed ungulates, such as deer and cattle, but is placed in a separate family, the Giraffidae, consisting of only the giraffe and its closest relative, the okapi. Its range extends from Chad in Central Africa to South Africa. Giraffes usually inhabit savannas, grasslands, or open woodlands. However, when food is scarce they will venture into areas with denser vegetation. They prefer areas with plenty of acacia growth. They will drink large quantities of water when available, which enables them to live for extended periods in dry, arid areas. Description: Santana Santana was signed by CBS Records and went into the studio to record their second album.

They were not satisfied with the release and decided changes needed to be made. This resulted in the dismissal of Bob Livingston. Santana replaced him with Mike Shrieve, who had a strong background in both jazz and rock. Marcus Malone was forced to quit the band due to personal problems, and the band re-enlisted Michael Carabello. Carabello brought with him percussionist Jose Chepito Areas, who was already well-known in his country, Nicaragua, and, with his skills and professional experience, was a major contributor to the band. Bill Graham had been a fan of the band from its inception, arranged for the band to appear at the Woodstock Music and Art Festival before their debut album was even released.

They were one of the surprises of the festival; their set was legendary and, later, the exposure of their eleven-minute instrumental 'Soul Sacrifice' in the Woodstock film and soundtrack albums vastly increased Santana's popularity. Graham also gave the band some key advice to record the Willie Bobo song 'Evil Ways', as he felt it would get them radio airplay. His first eponymous album, Santana released in August, became a huge hit, reaching number four on the U.S. Album charts, and the catchy single 'Evil Ways' reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100.[citation needed] In 1969, Santana's performance at the Woodstock festival introduced the band to an international audience and garnered critical acclaim, although the band's sudden success put pressure on the group, highlighting the different musical directions in which Rolie and Santana were starting to go. Rolie, along with some of the other band members, wanted to emphasize a basic hard rock sound which had been a key component in establishing the band from the start. Santana, however, was increasingly interested in moving beyond his love of blues and rock and wanted more jazzy, ethereal elements in the music, which we.

Description: In 1954 Bernstein made the first of his television lectures for the CBS arts program Omnibus. The live lecture, entitled 'Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony', involved Bernstein explaining the work with the aid of musicians from the former NBC Symphony Orchestra (recently renamed the 'Symphony of the Air') and a giant page of the score covering the floor.

Bernstein subsequently performed concerts with the orchestra and recorded his Serenade for Violin with Isaac Stern. Further Omnibus lectures followed from 1955 to 1958 (later on ABC and then NBC) covering jazz, conducting, American musical comedy, modern music, J.S. Bach, and grand opera. These programs were made available in the USA in a DVD set in 2010.

In late 1956, Bernstein conducted the New York Philharmonic in concerts that were to have been conducted by Guido Cantelli, who had tragically died in an air crash in Paris. This was the first time Bernstein had conducted the orchestra in subscription concerts since 1951. Partly due to these appearances, Bernstein was named the music director of the New York Philharmonic in 1957, replacing Dimitri Mitropoulos. He began his tenure in that position in 1958, having held the post jointly with Mitropoulos from 1957 to 1958.

In 1958, Bernstein and Mitropoulos took the New York Philharmonic on tour to South America. In his first season in sole charge, Bernstein included a season-long survey of American classical music. Themed programming of this sort was fairly novel at that time compared to the present day. Bernstein held the music directorship until 1969 (with a sabbatical in 1965) although he continued to conduct and make recordings with the orchestra for the rest of his life and was appointed 'laureate conductor'. He became a well-known figure in the United States through his series of fifty-three televised Young People's Concerts for CBS, which grew out of his Omnibus programs. His first Young People's Concert was televised a few weeks after his tenure began as principal co. Description: Booker T.

Jones was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1944. He was named in honor of Booker T. Washington, but unlike Washington (whose middle name was Taliaferro), Jones was only given the middle initial 'T.' Jones' is his full name. Jones was a prodigy, playing the oboe, saxophone, trombone, and piano at school and serving as organist at his church. He attended Booker T.

Washington High School, the alma mater of Rufus Thomas and shared the hallowed halls with future stars like Isaac Hayes's writing partner David Porter; saxophonist Andrew Love of The Memphis Horns; soul singer/songwriter William Bell and Earth, Wind, and Fire's Maurice White. Jones's first entry into professional music came at age sixteen, when he played baritone saxophone on Satellite (soon to be Stax) Records' first hit, 'Cause I Love You', by Rufus Thomas and Carla Thomas. While hanging around the Satellite Record Shop run by Estelle Axton, co-owner of Satellite Records with her brother Jim Stewart, Jones met record clerk Steve Cropper, who would become one of the MGs when the group formed in 1962.

Besides Jones on organ and Cropper on guitar, Booker T. And the MGs featured Lewie Steinberg on bass guitar and Al Jackson, Jr. On drums (Donald 'Duck' Dunn eventually replacing Steinberg). While still in high school, Jones co-wrote the group's instrumental 'Green Onions', which not only became a hit in 1962, but remains an enduring classic almost 50 years later. Bob Altshuler wrote the sleeve notes on the first Booker T.

S album released by Stax Records in 1962 and also called Green Onions. He wrote thus: Booker T. Jones’ (his full name) musical talents became apparent at a very early age. F1 2014 Crack Fix here. By the time he entered high school, Booker was already a semi-professional, and quickly recognized as the most talented musician in his school.

He was appointed director of the school band for four years, and in addition, organized the school dance orchestra which played for proms throughout the. Description: Madonna (born Madonna Louise Ciccone; August 16, 1958) is an American recording artist, actress and entrepreneur. Born in Bay City, Michigan, she moved to New York City in 1977 to pursue a career in modern dance. After performing in the music groups Breakfast Club and Emmy, she released her debut album in 1983. She followed it with a series of albums in which she found immense popularity by pushing the boundaries of lyrical content in mainstream popular music and imagery in her music videos, which became a fixture on MTV. Throughout her career, many of her songs have hit number one on the record charts, including 'Like a Virgin', 'Papa Don't Preach', 'Like a Prayer', 'Vogue', 'Frozen', 'Music', 'Hung Up', and '4 Minutes'. Madonna has been praised by critics for her diverse musical productions while at the same time serving as a lightning rod for religious controversy.

Her career was further enhanced by film appearances that began in 1979, despite mixed commentary. She won critical acclaim and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for her role in Evita (1996), but has received harsh feedback for other film roles. Madonna's other ventures include being a fashion designer, children's book author, film director and producer, and owner of her own recording company Maverick corporation, as a joint venture with Time Warner. She has been acclaimed as a businesswoman, and in 2007, she signed an unprecedented US $120 million contract with Live Nation. Madonna has sold more than 300 million records worldwide and is recognized as the world's top-selling female recording artist of all time by the Guinness World Records. According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), she is the best-selling female rock artist of the 20th century and the second top-selling female artist in the United States, behind Barbra Streisand, with 64 million certified albums.

In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked Madonna at number two, behind only The Bea. Description: During the 1920s, engineers including Orlando R. Marsh, as well as those at Western Electric, developed technology for capturing sound with microphones, amplifying it with vacuum tubes, and using the amplified signal to drive an electromagnetic recording head. A wide frequency range could now be recorded with a big increase in playback volume limited only by the pitch of the grooves in the record. Although the technology used vacuum tubes and today would be described as 'electronic', at the time it was referred to as 'electrical'. A 1926 Wanamaker's ad in The New York Times offers records 'by the latest Victor process of electrical recording'.[10] It was recognized as a breakthrough; in [1930], a Times music critic stated: '.the time has come for serious musical criticism to take account of performances of great music reproduced by means of the records.

To claim that the records have succeeded in exact and complete reproduction of all details of symphonic or operatic performances. Would be extravagant. [But] the article of today is so far in advance of the old machines as hardly to admit classification under the same name. Electrical recording and reproduction have combined to retain vitality and color in recitals by proxy.'

Description: Janet Damita Jo Jackson (born May 16, 1966) is an American recording artist and actress. Born in Gary, Indiana, and raised in Encino, Los Angeles, she is the youngest child of the Jackson family of musicians. She first performed on stage with her family at the age of seven, and started her career as an actress with the variety television series The Jacksons in 1976.

She went on to appear in other television shows throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, including Good Times and Fame. At age sixteen in 1982, she signed a recording contract with A&M, releasing her self-titled debut album the same year. She faced criticism for her limited vocal range, and for being yet another member of the Jackson family to become a recording artist. Beginning with her third studio album Control (1986), she began a long-term collaboration with record producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Her music with Jam and Lewis incorporated elements of rhythm and blues, disco, funk, and rap with sample loop, triplet swing and industrial beats, which led to crossover appeal in popular music.

In addition to receiving recognition for the innovation in her albums, choreography, music videos, and prominence on MTV, Jackson was acknowledged as a role model for her socially conscious lyrics. In 1991, she signed the first of two record-breaking, multi-million dollar recording contracts with Virgin Records, which established her as one of the highest paid artists in the music industry.

Her debut album under the Virgin label, Janet (1993), saw Jackson develop a public image as a sex symbol as she began to explore sexuality in her work. That same year, she appeared in her first starring film role in Poetic Justice; since then she has continued to act in feature films. By the end of the 1990s, she was named the second most successful recording artist of the decade. All for You (2001), became her fifth consecutive studio album to hit number one on the Billboard 200 album charts.

In 2007, she changed labels, signi. Description: Influence of disco Hip hop music was both influenced by disco and a backlash against it. According to Kurtis Blow, the early days of hip hop were characterized by divisions between fans and detractors of disco music. Hip hop had largely emerged as 'a direct response to the watered down, Europeanised, disco music that permeated the airwaves',[21][22] and the earliest hip hop was mainly based on hard funk loops.

However, by 1979, disco instrumental loops/tracks had become the basis of much hip hop music. This genre got the name of 'disco rap'. Ironically, hip hop music was also a proponent in the eventual decline in disco popularity. DJ Pete Jones, Eddie Cheeba, DJ Hollywood, and Love Bug Starski were disco-influenced hip hop DJs. Their styles differed from other hip hop musicians who focused on rapid-fire rhymes and more complex rhythmic schemes.

Afrika Bambaataa, Paul Winley, Grandmaster Flash, and Bobby Robinson were all members of this latter group. In Washington, D.C. Go-go emerged as a reaction against disco and eventually incorporated characteristics of hip hop during the early 1980s.

The genre of electronic music behaved similarly, eventually evolving into what is known as house music in Chicago and techno in Detroit. [edit] Transition to recording The first hip hop recording is widely regarded to be The Sugarhill Gang's 'Rapper's Delight', from 1979.[23] However, much controversy surrounds this allegation as some regard 'King Tim III (Personality Jock)' by The Fatback Band, which was released a few weeks before 'Rapper's Delight', as a rap record.[24] There are various other claimants for the title of first hip hop record. By the early 1980s, all the major elements and techniques of the hip hop genre were in place. Though not yet mainstream, hip hop had permeated outside of New York City; it could be found in cities as diverse as Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Dallas, Kansas City, San Antonio, Miami, Seattle, St. Louis, New Orleans, Houston, and To. Description: Daniel Alexander Kessler (born 25 September 1974, London, England) is the guitarist and backing vocalist for the New York City-based band Interpol.

He was raised in the United States. It was Kessler's desire to play in a real band which made him approach Carlos Dengler, with whom he attended a history class in New York University. Kessler knew lead singer Paul Banks from a summer program in Paris, France, and asked him to join the band when he ran into him in New York.

Kessler's dormmate Greg Drudy was Interpol's first drummer. When Drudy left the band, Kessler asked his friend Sam Fogarino to replace him.[1] Kessler had prior experience in the music industry while working for Domino Records, and his knowledge of the business was very helpful to the band in their early years. He brought all the members together, and has said that he was looking mostly for specific personal qualities each member could bring to the group rather than just musical talent. He is a graduate of New York University's (NYU) Gallatin School of Individualized Study in French, film and literature. Kessler has been known as the member of the band who has been the most active in the New York underground rock scene, which included his jobs at multiple record labels, such as Domino Records and trading their early demo tape around to various bands and labels.

Since 2006, Kessler resides in a loft in Lower East Side, Manhattan and is the only band member who is a vegetarian and does not smoke. He also is fluent in French. Description: Pete Sandoval is an American death metal drummer. Born in Santa Ana, El Salvador, he is known for his accomplishments in the world of extreme metal drumming.[citation needed] His first significant stint as a drummer was for the grindcore band Terrorizer, formed in mid-1980s, where he began to demonstrate some of his talent. Heavily influenced by the grindcore music around him, Sandoval quickly developed his abilities as a drummer with little formal training or musical education.[citation needed] In 1988, Sandoval was invited to join the death metal band Morbid Angel.

Concurrently, the original lineup of Terrorizer was dissolved after the departures of Sandoval and guitarist Jesse Pintado (who subsequently joined Napalm Death). Some cite Sandoval as the drummer most responsible for introducing rhythmically precise blast beats (i.e.

Definitive 2-note patterns of alternating bass drum / snare drum hits with cymbal-based ride patterns) into common use.[citation needed] While variations of blast beats had been around for decades, Sandoval built upon the idea with his own approach and quickly championed the concept's use in the music of Morbid Angel.[citation needed] Sandoval is also among the first extreme metal drummers. Terms coined for him have included 'Pete the Feet' and 'The Commando'. Interestingly, Sandoval had never used two bass drums before joining Morbid Angel. He had to practice frequently in order to get his feet up to speed, and recorded the Altars of Madness album within only a couple of months of joining Morbid Angel.

According to Morbid Angel guitarist Trey Azagthoth, the band would occasionally walk in on Sandoval passed out on the floor in a pool of sweat. After being woken up, he would immediately say, 'Time to get back to work!' [1] After mastering double-bass usage in Morbid Angel, Sandoval also implemented them in Terrorizer's World Downfall album when the band briefly re-united to record it. According to singer David Vincent, the band once played. Description: The Mass Communications building at MTSU. Download Whatsapp Untuk Blackberry Offline Installer. The RIM program is divided into three concentrations: Music Business, Commercial Songwriting, and Production & Technology. Music Business focuses on the marketing, management, and business aspects of the recording, touring, and publishing industries. The Production and Technology concentration focuses on recording, mixing, and mastering techniques, and specific technological trends of the industry. Commercial Songwriting is a blend of music business, songwriting, and music theory classes. Description: In May 1961, Coltrane's contract with Atlantic was bought out by the newly formed Impulse! Records label.[6] An advantage to Coltrane recording with Impulse!

Was that it would enable him to work again with engineer Rudy Van Gelder, who had taped both his and Davis's Prestige sessions, as well as Blue Train. It was at Van Gelder's new studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey that Coltrane would record most of his records for the label. By early 1961, bassist Davis had been replaced by Reggie Workman while Eric Dolphy joined the group as a second horn around the same time. The quintet had a celebrated (and extensively recorded) residency in November 1961 at the Village Vanguard, which demonstrated Coltrane's new direction.

It featured the most experimental music he'd played up to this point, influenced by Indian ragas, the recent developments in modal jazz, and the burgeoning free jazz movement. John Gilmore, a longtime saxophonist with musician Sun Ra, was particularly influential; after hearing a Gilmore performance, Coltrane is reported to have said 'He's got it! Gilmore's got the concept!' [7] The most celebrated of the Vanguard tunes, the 15-minute blues, 'Chasin' the 'Trane', was strongly inspired by Gilmore's music.[8] During this period, critics were fiercely divided in their estimation of Coltrane, who had radically altered his style. Audiences, too, were perplexed; in France he was famously booed during his final tour with Davis.

In 1961, Down Beat magazine indicted Coltrane, along with Eric Dolphy, as players of 'Anti-Jazz' in an article that bewildered and upset the musicians.[9] Coltrane admitted some of his early solos were based mostly on technical ideas. Furthermore, Dolphy's angular, voice-like playing earned him a reputation as a figurehead of the 'New Thing' (also known as 'Free Jazz' and 'Avant-Garde') movement led by Ornette Coleman, which was also denigrated by some jazz musicians (including Miles Davis) and critics. But as Coltrane's style further.

The giraffe's fur also works as a chemical defence, and is full of antibiotics and parasite repellents which gives the animal a characteristic scent. Old males are sometimes nicknamed 'stink bulls'. There are at least eleven main smelly chemicals in the fur, although it is indole and 3-methylindole which is responsible for most of their smell. Because the males have a stronger odour than the females, it is also assumed that it has a sexual function as well.[5].
