Jon Lord/Before I Forget [Expanded Version].import CD $17.99 From Esoteric distributor Cherry Red, 'Before I Forget' was originally released on Harvest Records in June 1982, when Jon Lord was moonlighting from tinkling the ivories in Whitesnake. Originally making his mark in the Artwoods and then playing keyboards with Deep Purple on their debut hit 'Hush,' Lord also enjoyed a series of significant side projects, from 1970's 'Concerto For Group & Orchestra,' 1972's 'Gemini Suite,' followed by 'First Of The Big Bands' and 'Windows,' both in 1974, and 'Sarabande' in 1976.
Following Deep Purple's split in 1976, Lord joined Whitesnake for their 1978 debut 'Trouble.' 'Before I Forget' features an impressive cast of supporting musicians, including Whitesnake's Bernie Marsden and Neil Murray on guitar and bass respectively, drumming legends Ian Paice (Deep Purple & Whitesnake), Cozy Powell (Jeff Beck, Rainbow, Whitesnake, MSG & Black Sabbath) and Simon Philips (Judas Priest, Jeff Beck, MSG, Mike Oldfield & Toto). In the Spring of 1968 bassist Ace Kefford departed the fold, with Trevor Burton assuming bass guitar duties. The band continued to enjoy success as a singles act, earning a number one hit with 'Blackberry Way' in November 1968. In February 1969 Burton also left the band to be replaced by Rick Price. It was this line-up that was to record 'Shazam.'
The album was very well received and is regarded as a classic of the era. After some repair work on five tracks, a seven-inch EP (playing at 33 rpm) was issued in June 1968 under the title 'Something Else from the Move.' After passing his LGSM exams, he taught music at Reeds School and Peper Harrow whilst continuing to compose and record in his home studio. He marked his return to the commercial music scene with the release of his debut solo album The Geese & The Ghost in 1977 and continued to create a large and diverse output as a recording artist on albums such as Wise After the Event, Sides, Slow Dance, 1984 and Field Day.
