Local citizens are invited to attend one of three community-wide opportunities scheduled from 6:30-7:30pm Tuesday, October 24 at the Pleasant Hill Middle School Library; 7:30-8:30pm, Wednesday, November 1 at the Pleasant Hill Elementary School Dome and 6:30-7:30pm, Thursday, November 9 at the Pleasant Hill Primary School Gym. Academic Letters presented to 192 HS students This Fall, one hundred ninety two (192) High School, students were presented Academic Letters on Wednesday, Oct. To earn an academic letter, a student must earn a 3.5 or better GPA (grade point average) for the school year. The Primary School Excellence in Education Award went to Kindergarten teacher, Denise Robinson.

Denise was chosen because she does whatever it takes for her students. Even though, she is a veteran teacher, she is always willing to try new ideas in her classroom. She differentiates her instruction for her students and fights to keep expectations developmental appropriate. Denise has hosted numerous students teachers over the years and is an amazing educator who wants to mold young professionals to be his / her best. Erica was selected because she creates an incredible learning environment where students feel safe, supported and inspired. She is constantly using current instructional strategies and rigorous curriculum that allows her to reach struggling students with differentiated lesson strategies. She can also accelerate and challenge her brightest students through highly engaging, authentic experiences. She is an innovator and leader and her willingness to share with her colleagues and district peers show how dedicated she is to the advancement of both her students and her co-workers. The Intermediate School Excellence in Education Award went to Sixth Grade teacher, Caleb Clawson. Caleb was selected because he truly cares for his students and makes all his decisions with their best interest at heart. He builds a relationship with each individual student and creates a positive classroom climate in which every student feels safe and celebrated. He is a team player and is always willing to help by researching new strategies and implementing ideas that make lessons more meaningful. He works tirelessly to ensure the success of Project Lead the Way by planning, testing and preparing all the necessary parts so that it is an area of success for all students. He has been a mentor to several student teachers.

He shows them the value in using data to drive instruction and how to meet the needs of a diverse group of students while building meaningful relationships. Congratulations Caleb! The Middle School Excellence in Education Award went to Social Studies teacher, Brittany Campbell. Brittany was selected because she is a bright spot at the middle School and she does a great job connecting with her students that goes beyond the classroom and makes a big impact on them by making it a goal to attend an event that each one of her students participates in.

Her ability to differentiate instruction was woven seamlessly into her lessons so it was a natural part of the curriculum. She has brought new and innovative lessons to the Social Studies curriculum. This year instead of reading about the Intolerable Acts that lead up the Boston Tea Party and ultimately the American Revolution, she enacted some very unfair rules and prices for the ‘gum chewing privilege’. Then she had a few students recruited to lead the revolt to the unfair rules and gum tax. It was a powerful learning experience for all of her students and one that they will not easily forget. The High School Excellence in Education Award went to Vocal Music teacher, Karen Dollins. Karen was chosen in part because her commitment to students, each choir she teaches and the overall district music program is undeniable and she continues to raise the standard of music excellence. She is able to push each student to be better and work harder and the level of musicianship developed throughout the four years of high school is obvious to see.

She is dedicated to making the program excel and expects excellence from each student. Out of 55 choirs she has taken to state large group contest throughout her career, she has earned 54 one ratings. She has also led the Hillside Singers to be undefeated in Missouri show choir competitions for 2 years in a row. She spends countless hours before and after school working with students and will always find time for any student who asks for extra practice. She brings energy and high expectations every day. Congratulations Karen! The Educator of the Year went to Karen Dollins.

Karen was chosen this year because she makes a tremendous impact on the lives of her students, and the program, each and every day. She brings energy and high expectations every day to her Pleasant Hill High School choirs. and her dedication and work ethic is what has allowed the Pleasant Hill choir program to be so well-known and award winning. She was chosen because she takes care of others. She is not only energetic and organized, she always greets people with a smile and a willing attitude. She has served as a resource to other building secretaries who have questions or issues when working in the student information system or the accounting software. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders with Rockhurst University and a Master’s of Science in Communication Disorders from University of Central Missouri. Cierra Sewell will serve as a SPED Co-teacher. Last year, she was a Special Education teacher with the Grain Valley School District.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Central Missouri with Certification in Elementary Education and Special Education Cross-Categorical. Elementary School Melissa Franklin will serve as a 3rd grade classroom teacher and will bring 13 years of experience to the Pleasant Hill School District. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Missouri Western State University and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Northwest Missouri State University.

Bringing 25 years of experience to the District, Heidi Mackey will serve as Principal. Last year, she was the Principal for Hogan Elementary Charter School and prior to that she served as principal for 12 years and assistant principal for 2 years for Whiteman AFB Elementary School for the Knob Noster School District. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Kansas. She also holds a Education Specialist in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri State University. Intermediate School After completing her student teaching with the Lone Jack School District, Jennifer Hoien will serve as a Paraprofessional.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Special Education from Northwest Missouri State University. In her first year of teaching, Casey Little, will serve as a 6th grade classroom teacher.

She completed her student teaching at Helen Mathews Elementary in Nixa, MO. Since 2010, she has served as a Birthday Party Hostess for Paradise Park in Lee’s Summit, MO. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Missouri State University. After teaching 1-6th grade at Hickman Mills School District last year, Amanda McNealy, will serve as an Art teacher.

She received a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in Drawing from the University of Central Missouri. Heather Null will serve as a 6th grade classroom teacher. Last year, she was a SPED paraprofessional at Troy Buchanan High School and she completed her student teaching at Wentzville Middle School.

She received a Bachelor of Arts in Middle School and Secondary Education from Lindenwood University. Middle School Jeffrey Chapman will serve as a Paraprofessional.

He was a private tutor in Algebra I and II, Pre-Algebra with Crittenton Center since 2014. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northwest Missouri State University and a Master of Science in Education with certification in K-12 Mild/Moderate Cross-Categorical from Southwest Baptist University.

Kristine Conover will serve as a Paraprofessional. Since 2011, she has been a teller with F & C Bank. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts from Central Missouri State University. Bringing four years of experience to the Pleasant Hill School District, Josh Moore, will serve as a Math teacher. He taught middle school and high school math for the Marceline School District.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Kansas State University and a Masters in Secondary Administration from William Woods University. After serving as a substitute for the District since 2006, Tonya Pearce will serve as a Paraprofessional. She has a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Science from Truman State University. High School Emily Allsop will serve as an Assistant Principal and will bring 9 years of experience to the Pleasant Hill School District. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology with Pre-Med Concentration and a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She also holds a Education Specialist in Educational Administration from William Woods University.

Kyle Holt will serve as a Business teacher. Last year he taught Introduction to Business for the Savannah School District. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and a National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education 9-12 Business Education Certification from Northwest Missouri State University.

Jessica Janis will serve as a Counselor and will bring 8 years of experience in psychology and counseling to the Pleasant Hill School District. Last year, she completed her internship in Professional School Counseling at Smithville School District while also working as a Motivational Interviewer for the University of Central Missouri’s Violence and Substance Abuse Prevention Office. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and a Masters of Science in Counselor Education from the University of Central Missouri. Completing his student teaching at Liberty North High School where he taught Personal Finance, Introduction to Business and Entrepreneurship with exposure to Accounting and Marketing, Zachary Johnson, will serve as a Business teacher.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Marketing from the University of Central Missouri. A past graduate, Codie Lubke, will bring 5 years of experience to the Pleasant Hill School District. She will serve as a SPED teacher. She taught 1st grade and was a Special Education teacher for the Kingsville School District. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Central Missouri. Bringing twenty eight years of experience to the Pleasant Hill School District, Rusty Kephart, will serve as a part-time Industrial Arts and Agriculture teacher.

He was an Agriculture Instructor and FFA Advisor for Holden High School. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Ag Education from the University of Central Missouri and a Masters in Education from the University of Missouri. District After serving as a substitute teacher and secretary for the District this past year, Kerrie Mann will serve as a Data Specialist. She holds an Associate of Arts Degree with the University of Kansas.

Returning to the District, Pam Maxey will serve as Director of Special Services. For the past year, she served as a Director of Special Services for the Harrisonville School District. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Special Education from William Jewell College, an Elementary School Administration Master’s Degree through the Collaborative Principal Preparation Program at University of Central Missouri and graduate classes for completing certification for Director of Special Services from the University of Central Missouri. Bringing 9 years of experience to the District, Melissa Roach will serve as part-tme Parents as Teachers. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from the University of Central Missouri. District News: BOE, Summer School - June 16, 2016 Readers' Theater presents ' The Jungle Book' The jungle is jumpin’ with a jazzy beat in the classic Disney musical, the Jungle Book, which will be presented by the Readers’ Theater summer school class on Thursday, June 23 at 7pm in the High School auditorium. Tickets will be $2 at the door.
